Supermarket Sampler -- Tried and absolutely loved a new egg pasta available exclusively in Canada at La Bottega Nicastro in the ByWard Market, and Nicastro Italian Food Emporium on Merivale Road. Called "La Campofilone" brand, it's available in 11 varieties -- from linguine to fettuccine -- at $7.99 for a 250-gram box. (Hey, I didn't say it was cheap.)
Also available flavoured with squid ink, hot pepper or sage for $1 more.
One taste, and you'll be impressed. It cooks in only two minutes and has a creamy melt-in-the-mouth texture rarely (if ever) delivered by other dried pasta -- the closest to homemade I've ever tasted from a box.
