La Bottega Nicastro offers dinners, cooking and wine tasting classes with various guest chefs and wine experts throughout the season. All classes are Italian food and wine focused unless otherwise noted. We also offer private customized cooking classes and wine tastings for corporate groups and special events, please contact us for further information at firstname.lastname@example.org
Classes & Dinners are held at our store in the Byward Market - 64 George Street.
Each class is roughly 18 people in size, with 4 seats at the bar and around 14 at a communal table. There are at least 3 courses demonstrated and eaten - an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. Two glasses of wine are included. Our classes are quite popular and usually sell out quickly, so we ask that you register as early as possible. All classes are demonstration. Classes begin at 6:00 pm unless otherwise stated.
THURSDAY February 23 - Northern Italian Dinner (sold out) - North meets South at La Bottega as Chef & Co-Owner Adam Vettorel from North & Navy restaurant takes over our kitchen and travels through the regions of Veneto, Lombardia, Piemonte, Friuli and Val d'Aosta. Menu details to come. Dinner will include premium Northern Italian wine pairings. $100 per person - REGISTER
FRIDAY February 24 - Risotto 101 - For most people, when they think Italian, they think pasta. But what about pasta’s Northern Italian cousin? Chef Michael Cummings will demonstrate how versatile and pantry friendly, risotto is. It is the perfect pillow to any number of toppings and add-ins from roasted vegetables and cheeses to meats and seafood. $70 per person - REGISTER
Friday March 10 - Old School Italian Classics (sold out) - Chicken Parmigiana, Gnocchi, Meatballs, Tiramisu...we love old school Italian classics here. Chef Michael Cummings will be cooking up these classics with a Byward Market twist. $70 per person - REGISTER
FRIDAY March 24 - Italian Seafood & Fish - Italians are known for their love of fish and seafood. Often only needing the lightest of culinary touches for spectacular results Italian seafood recipes vary a great deal depending on the region and the season. Wine Classes are led by a La Bottega Wine Expert - includes 6 wines with 6 food pairings. Each class is roughly 12 people in size unless otherwise indicated. All wine classes are from 3:00 to 4:30 pm - $59 per person
Sunday February 26 - Wines of SOUTHERN ITALY - Sicily, Puglia, Calabria, Campania - the land of still-active volcanoes, sun-drenched beaches, and 80 percent of the country’s olive trees. It’s also where you’ll find off-beat grape varieties few wine geeks have ever heard of. Guest sommelier Clay Cardillo will share some of his top picks from this gem of a region. REGISTER
Sunday March 19 - Introduction to Italian Wine & Cheese - Learn why Italy is one of the most fascinating and delicious wine regions in the world. The 20 regions of Italy grow over 350 indigenous grape varietals so it is easy to never drink the same wine twice. This class will cover the basics of the major wine producing areas and grape varietals paired with regional Italian cheeses. REGISTER
