Our weekend REGIONAL ITALIAN SUPPER CLUB. This weekend we are heading to the hilltop town of Treiso in Piemonte. Home to Agricola Molino. Although Barolo always gets the attention this wine region is home to many wonderful wines enjoyed by locals and exported in small quantities. Such as these below.
ABOUT AGRICOLA MOLINO - always privately imported into Ontario
Virgino Molino, has always worked professionally in the world of wine. Born in the Piedmont region of San Damiano d'Asti. It was a dream come true for Virginio when in 1991 he was able to create the family business with his four sons all taking on roles in the operation. From viticulture, to winemaking to marketing & sales. Each of the brothers support their Fathers traditional vision while creating new wine styles expressive of their terroir. Based in Tresio, within the recognized Cru of Ausario, we are thrilled to share the fruits of the family with you. Selected for their summer seasonal appeal, you will receive the following new vintage releases.
2020 Molino Sibilla Arneis - A fresh and vibrant white, showing white nectarine and floral notes with a youthful herbal character. Medium bodied, this wine is fantastic as its own course or with aperitivo such as melon & prosciutto
2020 Molino Le Querce Dolcetto D'Alba - Elegant electricity comes to mind. Dolcetto translates to 'little sweet one" although what is in your glass is dry. A dark skinned berry, the wine carries a purple hue with aromas of fresh cherry and almond. Planted at elevation on the hills of Ausario to retain its acidity and quechability.
2020 Molino Selvaggia Rosso - This wine, in appearance, comes in "lighter" than Dolcetto. It could be mistaken for Pinot Noir and actually shares some similar properties, however there is a fork in the road. The dominant grape of Nebbiolo is shown in its youthful light initially though firms up through tasting. Barbera plays a supporting role, taming the edges and making this a perfect wine to tick off the everyday Italian box.
2019 Molino Mistral Moscato D'Asti - Performing double duty. Moscato makes for a fantastic lunch wine with its low alcohol percentage and frizzante style. Also an evening choice pre-dessert or with desserts at lower sugar levels. One of the longest cultivated grapes in Piemonte from Muscat a Petits Grains, the best of many strains of the variety.
