La BOTTEGA Nicastro offers dinners, cooking and wine tasting classes with various guest chefs and wine experts throughout the season.

All classes are Italian food and wine focused unless otherwise noted. We also offer private customized cooking classes and wine tastings for corporate groups and special events, please contact us for further information at events@labottega.ca

Classes & Dinners are held at our store in the Byward Market at 64 George Street.

Cooking Classes & Dinners

Each class is roughly 18 people in size, with 4 seats at the bar and around 14 at a communal table. In the cooking classes there are at least 3 courses demonstrated and eaten - an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. Two glasses of wine are included unless otherwise noted. Dinners are communal seating with premium wine pairings.

All classes and dinner are demonstration. Classes and Dinners begin at 6:00 pm unless otherwise stated.

FRIDAY January 24 - ITALIAN VEGETARIAN 101

The average everyday Italian diet is very vegetarian-friendly, and the reason for this is the country’s cultural heritage. The variety of grains, legumes, olive oil, organic eggs, vegetable sauces, hearty soups, condiments, abundant dairy, and heaps of fresh produce grace Italian tables at every meal. Chef Michael Cummings will prepare some of his top vegetable based winter time dishes.

MONDAY January 27 - RIVIERA + APRÈS SKI in ITALY

We are pleased to welcome Chef Jordan Holley from RIVIERA Restaurant for an alpine inspired dinner as we travel from the Alps to the Dolomites. This cozy menu is what winter is made for, perfect after a long day on the slopes, snowshoeing or simply as a warm up from the frigid outdoor temperature. The evening will begin with an après-ski cocktail and dinner will be paired with regional Italian wines.

FRIDAY February 7 - NORTHERN ITALIAN COMFORT FOOD

Thanks to its mountainous terrain and its proximity to Switzerland, Austria and France, Northern Italy loves the land. The Piemonte and Lombardia regions of northern Italy are prime meat country and their cuisine shows it. Chef Michael Cummings will cook up some risotto, osso buco and more.

Famous for its local produce and meat, for its simplicity and seasonal foods Chef Michael Cummings will share some winter recipes from his favourite region in Italy - Tuscany.  This premium cooking class will include a glass of Prosecco to begin and premium Tuscan wine pairings.

SUNDAY February 16 - SUNDAY LUNCH with STEFANO FAITA & MICHELE FORGIONE

Enjoy a late Sunday lunch like the Italians do, family style with Stefano Faita and Michele Forgione as your chefs in the La Bottega kitchen. Stefano and Michele are the talented chefs behind some of Montreal's best (Impasto, Gema, Vesta, Chez Tousignant) and have recently launched their own line of pasta sauces and panettone.  Three course lunch including wine.  All proceeds from the lunch will be donated to the Parkdale Food Center in Ottawa.

The class will be paired with 2027 Winery from Beamsville in Niagara. Winemaker and owner, Kevin Panagapka fell in love with Tuscany this past summer so we thought this would be a great fit to pair some of his award winning Niagara wines with Tuscan Comfort Food.

Wine Classes are led by a La BOTTEGA Wine Expert - includes 5 wines with 5 antipasti. Each class is roughly 12 people in size unless otherwise indicated.

THURSDAY January 16 - SUPER TUSCANS: The Unofficial Star of Tuscany

What is a Super Tuscan? Where did the name come from? Do all Super Tuscans have Cabernet Sauvignon in them? We will share some of our top picks and answer these questions along with some Italian salumi and cheese.

WEDNESDAY  January 22 - WINE TASTING 101: The Shape of Your Wine Glass

According to Riedel Crystal, the 260-year-old Austrian fine glassware company, a glass should be a "wine tool" designed to unlock a wine's full flavour potential, not just something to pour the wine into. Tonight, glassware expert Candace Sutcliffe (Chef's Paradise) and wine expert Lauren Hayes-Van Den Weghe (The Vine)  will explain the science behind this taste phenomenon and advise us on what type of glass we should use to enjoy our favourite wines. Tasting will include bread, cheese and salumi.

Join us as we celebrate the Women of Italian Wine! Sommelier Steven Robinson will share the wines and stories of the women at the forefront of the wine trade, from the trailblazers who broke through wine’s glass ceiling, to the contemporary rockstars that craft some of the most sought after bottles of Italy. THURSDAY January 30 - PIEMONTE WINE ROUTE

The region of Piemonte, in far northwestern Italy, is well known for Barolo and Barbaresco (which of course we’ll cover in this class), but there is also so much more. Sommelier Alex Craig will be looking at Piemonte as a whole, covering not only the wine regions and styles (from Arneis and Barbera, to Barolo and Barbaresco) but also the culture, history, and food of the area. Wines will be paired with Italian meats and cheese.

Like to collect and age wines? Start with Italy. It is one of the only international wine regions that make wine of impeccable quality under strict appellation law. Italian wines are made from varieties not often seen outside its borders. These wines can age — sometimes up to 70 years — and evolve with time. Sommelier Alex Craig will share some Italian wines that have stood the test of time and share some advice on how to start building an age-worthy cellar collection. All wines will be paired with Italian salumi and cheese.

All prices are per person. Full payment must be made upon booking. All classes are non-refundable and non-transferable to another date. If you are unable to attend you can send someone in your spot. Cooking and Wine class gift certificates are issued by email only.
