Cooking & Wine Classes


La Bottega Nicastro offers dinners, cooking and wine tasting classes with various guest chefs and wine experts throughout the season.  All classes are Italian food and wine focused unless otherwise noted.  We also offer private customized cooking classes and wine tastings for corporate groups and special events, please contact us for further information at

Classes & Dinners are held at our store in the Byward Market - 64 George Street.


Each class is roughly 18 people in size, with 4 seats at the bar and around 14 at a communal table. In the cooking classes there are at least 3 courses demonstrated and eaten - an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. Two glasses of wine are included unless otherwise noted.  All classes and dinner are demonstration.  Classes begin at 6:00 pm unless otherwise stated.

Monday April 24 - Italian Classics: Old vs. New School - (sold out) GEZELLIG restaurant takes over our kitchen for an Italian Classics Dinner. Guest chefs will prepare Italian classic dishes two ways; firstly, as the comfort food classics we know and love them as and then with an upmarket modern spin. Menu details to come. Dinner will include premium Italian wine pairings. $100 per person. REGISTER

FRIDAY April 28 - Spring Pasta & Risotto 101 - Pasta and risotto make an ideal partner for the lightest, most delicately flavoured vegetables and herbs of the year. Chef Michael Cummings will share some of his favourite springtime inspired pasta and risotto recipes. REGISTER

FRIDAY May 12 - Cook Tuscany - Anyone who has been to Tuscany has fallen in love with its wine and food. In tonight's class Chef Michael Cummings will share some of this central region's culinary specialties. REGISTER

MONDAY June 19 - Supply and Demand at La BOTTEGA - The talented Chef Steve Wall from Supply and Demand restaurant takes over our kitchen for the latest in our Bottega "after hours" dinner series. Dinner will include premium Italian wine pairings. Menu details to come. $100 per person REGISTER


Wine Classes are led by a La Bottega Wine Expert - includes 6 wines with 6 food pairings.  Each class is roughly 12 people in size unless otherwise indicated. All wine classes are from 3:00 to 4:30 pm - $59 per person

Sunday April 30 - Wines of Northern Italy - Explore Northern Italian wines as we travel from the Veneto to Piemonte and explore Valpolicella, Ripasso, Nebbiolo, Soave, real "Pinot Grigio" & more. The wines of the North are world renowned for their elegance and finesse. All wines will be paired with regional antipasti. REGISTER

Sunday May 7 - Italian Island Wines: Sicily vs. Sardinia - Join Sommelier Connor Gallagher (Play restaurant) as he explores Sicily & Sardinia - two delicious Italian wine regions that should be on your radar for summer sipping. These two islands are among the Mediterranean’s most prolific with grapevines planted across the island, a wealth of indigenous grapes and forward-looking producers. REGISTER

Sunday June 4 - Introduction to Italian Wine & Cheese - Learn why Italy is one of the most fascinating and delicious wine regions in the world. The 20 regions of Italy grow over 350 indigenous grape varietals so it is easy to never drink the same wine twice. This class will cover the basics of the major wine producing areas and grape varietals paired with regional Italian cheeses. REGISTER


Cooking Classes & Wine Tastings - Terms & Conditions Due to small class size and popularity we do have certain terms and conditions that apply to our La Scuola Bottega classes.  All prices are per person. Full payment must be made upon booking.  All classes are non-refundable and non-transferable to another date.  If you are unable to attend you can send someone in your spot.  Cooking and Wine class gift certificates are issued by email only.
